Is literacy a focus of your school improvement plans?
Should it be?
Year-long, job-embedded professional development for NWEA partner schools
THE REALITY:
Students cannot meet standards in the content areas without strong literacy skills.
THE ISSUE:
Content area educators traditionally have not been trained to teach literacy.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Adolescent Literacy Collaboratory, offered to NWEA partner schools by The
Education Alliance at Brown University
THE OUTCOME:
The Collaboratory builds literacy leaders at your school.
The 2008–2009 Collaboratory
is a year-long professional development program for interdisciplinary teams of middle school and high school teachers using the
Northwest Evaluation Association's MAP Reading Assessment.
The Collaboratory begins with a five-day, face-to-face Orientation Institute and continues online throughout the
school year. You have two options for attending the institute:
-
For districts or regions sending 1–4 teams, the institute is in Providence, RI,
August 4–8, 2008.
-
For districts or regions sending 5 or more teams, schedule an institute in your location
between July & September 2008.
