Differentiating Language Learning and Special Education Needs

Many school teams responsible for special education placements struggle to accurately assess and place English language learners. As a result, some ELLs may be misidentified as special education students when their learning difficulties in fact stem from language differences. Or, ELLs with special education needs may not be identified and receive no support.

At The Education Alliance, specialists with backgrounds in ELL and special education help schools improve policies and processes in order to provide the appropriate special education support and language development support to those students who need it.
