Gender Equity

A number of gender equity concerns can impact school climate and student performance and may have legal implications. Students are affected by the portrayal of gender in the curriculum and textbooks, access to extracurricular activities and athletic opportunities, opportunities for financial aid and awards, and access to high-level courses and guidance. Students may also have to contend with bullying and sexual harassment on the basis of their gender or gender identity. We help districts and schools assess and address gender equity concerns through school climate needs assessments, program and policy reviews, and professional development.

We help districts and schools assess and address gender equity concerns through school climate needs assessments, program and policy reviews, and professional development. In particular, we work with curriculum specialists to examine disproportionate representation of girls or boys in different tracks, AP courses, and extracurricular activities by disaggregating enrollment data by gender, race, and ethnicity. We then collaborate with curriculum specialists to design new programs and policies to improve any imbalances.

In addition, our gender equity specialists review school or district policies regarding gender equity, and provide trainings on how teachers and administrators can work to be in compliance with Title IX.
