Gauging and Improving Interactions in Online Seminars for Mathematics Coaches

This research paper is part of a series investigating how online technologies can support the professional learning of K-12 educators. The authors conducted a study that examined the quality of peer-to-peer interaction in an online seminar that engaged coaches from across the country. The Investigations Online seminar helps participants coach elementary school mathematics teachers to implement the Investigations in Data, Number, and Space curriculum. This paper describes the results of the study and the design features of this model for online professional learning. This and the other studies in the series point to key features and findings useful to state and district agencies and designers of online professional development.
