New York State English language learner curriculum audits begin

The Education Alliance's New York State English Language Learner Curriculum Audits have been scheduled to include more districts for the 2007–08 school year. The Alliance has expanded work conducted in New York City last year to upstate districts as well. During 2006–07, the Alliance partnered with Learning Point Associates of Naperville, IL to conduct English Language Learner (ELL) curriculum audits of nine New York City school districts in corrective action in part due to the under-performance of their ELL students. For 2007–08, the Alliance has partnered again with Learning Point Associates to conduct similar ELL curriculum audits in five other New York City school districts as well as school districts in Utica, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Mt. Vernon. This work builds on the experience of the Alliance in the areas of second language acquisition and English Language Learners.
