The Alliance will be well represented at this year's Annual Conference of the American Evaluation Association (AEA). Held November 10–13 in San Antonio, Texas, over 2500 evaluators and practitioners from education, health, labor, social services and other areas will be sharing their work and ideas around the theme of Evaluating with Validity. The New England Equity Assistance Center (NEEAC) co-sponsored the 15th annual New England Conference on Multicultural Education (NECME) on October 14, 2010. The conference, titled "Improving Student Achievement Through Multicultural Learning: Engagement and Success for All" was held at the Hartford Marriott in Farmington, Connecticut. May 19 webinar, "ECAL: Enhancing Content-Area Learning for ELLs" >>

This web briefing describes a professional development project The Education Alliance has initiated with three Massachusetts urban school districts. Under a 5-year Title III grant, Alliance staff are working with secondary content-area teachers in the three districts to enhance their teaching practice as it relates to English language learners. Presenters from the Alliance's Equity and Diversity division share their successes and lessons learned about critical factors at the district, school, and classroom levels to be addressed for professional development to be relevant and effective. Project BRITE symposium held >> Project BRITE (Brown's Response to Improving Teacher Education) marked the completion of the first cohort of Education Alliance fellows with a symposium on January 22nd and 23rd at Brown University. The symposium gave the fellows an opportunity to report out on their work and to review a presentation by evaluator Dr. Elizabeth Brach. (posted: February 10, 2010)
