District Strategic Mapping

The District Strategic Mapping Process engages district and school leaders, principals and teachers in a collective analysis of how the district is providing support to all schools, and in particular those schools identified for improvement. Beginning with an initial intensive two-day process, we support district leaders in collectively identifying the central challenges facing their schools and the strategies and resources that currently and could potentially support their schools' improvement efforts. The process then engages the multiple leaders and departments in district to collectively consider how their current array of strategies and resources are addressing the central challenges facing their district and identified schools. In addition to this analysis, the process allows the district to collectively identify core challenges that are having systemic impact on the ability of their identified school to make significant improvement.

Outcomes:

Participation in the Strategic Mapping Process supports districts in their efforts to develop aligned and coherent systems of support and streamline existing district and school improvement plans. Specific outcomes include:

  1. A Problem Diagnoses Map that graphically depicts the various issues and challenges influencing student achievement, and how these issues and challenges relate to each other.
  2. A synthesis of existing strategies and resources currently being used to support district and school improvement efforts.
  3. The identification of a small set of "high leverage" issues and challenges and a set of jointly developed systems-based strategies for attending to these issues.
  4. Specific action-steps for mobilizing and implementing the identified systems-based strategies.
