The Education Alliance conducted an applied research project on the design and evaluation of online seminars to allow in-depth learning about topics in elementary mathematics education. The project targeted teachers using Investigations in Number, Data and Space, a K-12 mathematics curriculum, and focused on issues of curriculum implementation.
Two specific seminars were developed, one on coaching teachers using Investigations, and another on building knowledge for teaching multiplication through examining student work. Participants included mathematics specialists, district specialists, and teacher leaders from urban, suburban, and rural communities. The program assisted participants from around the globe, both in site access and seminar participation. There were 214 schools/districts representing 40 states and 8 foreign countries that participated in this project.
In a related initiative, from 1998-2006, in partnership with the Center for the Enhancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CESAME) at Northeastern University and The Math Forum, the Alliance hosted the CESAME Support Site for Investigations in Number, Data and Space, a resource for teachers implementing the Investigations curriculum.
