Project Summary
Master's Program - English as a Second Language and Cross-Cultural Studies
The Education Alliance and Brown University's Department of Portuguese & Brazilian Studies jointly offered advanced degrees in English as a second language and cross-cultural studies for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree and a teaching certificate. The program incorporated second language acquisition research, culturally responsive pedagogy, and practical experiences to build the candidate's foundational knowledge.
Project RESPONSE improved the quality of bilingual education and ESL programs in Rhode Island public schools by expanding the number of students served by high-quality professionals. Through work with teachers, principals, and school change teams, candidates trained to both document and create new insights relevant to their own practice and the needs and concerns of their institutions.
