Project Summary

The Pemberton Township High School (Pemberton, NJ), Newton North and South High Schools (Newton, MA), Peabody Veterans Memorial High School (Peabody, MA), Uniondale High School (Uniondale, NY) and the Clear Creek Independent School District (League City, TX) contracted individually with The Education Alliance to conduct external program evaluations of the impact and implementations of their Smaller Learning Communities initiatives (SLC), funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

The initiative assists schools in developing small, safe, and successful learning environments in large high schools as a component of comprehensive high school improvement plans. The evaluation focuses on four key areas: 1) To document the success and progress of school-level implementation of the SLC program; 2) To assess the impact of the SLC program implementation on student achievement; 3) To assess the impact of the SLC program on other indicators of success (e.g. school climate, parent participation, teacher/student/parent satisfaction, sense of community); 4) To provide useful information regarding successful implementation to support and promote increased student performance and engagement.
