English Language Learners Program Implementations - East and West Hartford: Evaluation
The East Hartford and West Hartford Public School Districts contracted individually with the Education Alliance to conduct formative evaluations of their programs for English language learners.
West Hartford offers English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and a transitional language program while East Hartford offers transitional bilingual education, English as a second language and language transitional support services. The evaluations answered questions such as: 1) What program models are being utilized successfully in similar districts? 2) What are the best service delivery models for the various sub-groups of English language learners? 3) What are the professional development experiences and needs of the program teachers? and 4) What is the academic progress of the students?
