Nevin Katz, Jr. first discovered his passion for teaching in high school, where he enjoyed creating oral presentations for his history classes. At Swarthmore College, he became fascinated with the natural sciences and went on to graduate with a B.A. in Biology in 1999. Though he had been interested in medical school and scientific research during his college years, Nevin ultimately concluded that teaching high school would provide him with a more immediate opportunity to express himself creatively and reach people on a human level.

A student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Nevin is interested in science curriculum design, the psychology of learning and motivation, and issues of social justice in education. Nevin is currently a student teacher at New Mission High School in Roxbury, Mass. He credits the high quality of his experience to the immensely supportive faculty of teachers, administrators, and fellow student teachers there. In the coming years, Nevin plans to continue teaching high school in Boston.

When he's not teaching or preparing lessons, Nevin can often be found running or playing the guitar.
