Leslie Skornik teaches third grade at the Mason-Rice Elementary School in Newton. During her teaching career, she has taught grades K-4. Through the Reach Out to Schools program at Wellesley College, she is working to become a teacher trainer for Open Circle, a curriculum that aims to teach social competency and problem-solving skills to children. Last summer she participated in a writing workshop at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she and other teachers were mentored in writing about their practice.

A lifelong resident of Newton, Leslie enjoys her feisty orange cat Marmalade, her family, and her friends. When asked in an interview last June by the very young staff of Mason Rice A+ Literary Magazine about her favorite food, the answer was simple: broccoli and candy. An avid long-distance walker and keen observer along the route, Leslie hopes to write her tales of the road.
