Prospective Minority Teachers
Welcome!
If you are from a minority background, are from another country, or you speak the language of one of Rhode Island's many immigrant communities, we hope you are interested in becoming a teacher! We've designed this website to help you succeed on the journey to becoming a teacher in the public schools in Rhode Island.
This website offers help in several ways:
-
by presenting the voices of others like yourself who have taken this journey
into teaching and want to share their success stories;
-
by presenting explanations of the current
pathways to teaching;
-
by presenting information about how to pay for teacher education with
financial assistance;
-
by presenting links to all of the schools offering
teacher education programs in Rhode Island ;
-
by providing links to the Rhode Island Department of Education's website, which presents
information about the criteria for certification;
-
by providing information and links for a wide range of services, programs, and
information sources that help with everything from preparing to take required tests,
to improving English fluency, to finding a local organization that provides
advocacy and mentoring. This information is all assembled together under the category of
support networks;
