Developing Systems for Effective District-wide School Improvement
We work with districts to develop a system for supporting and monitoring school improvement efforts through fundamentally changing how districts assist schools in areas such as needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Through our support, districts have redefined the expectations for all of their schools, the improvement process itself, and the district role in this endeavor.
Our work has involved planning, designing and implementing a district system of support by:
- Compiling and analyzing the multiple requirements and mandates faced by the district;
- Facilitating and providing tools for the district’s self-assessment;
- Co-developing a logic model or theory of action to identify gaps in current support strategies and for guidance of the district’s improvement practices going forward;
- Helping the district to develop improvement plans and providing feedback to the district plans;
- Refining and consolidating the school improvement plan template;
- Developing a system and rubric for reviewing and providing feedback to schools on their improvement plans;
- Developing a system and rubric for reviewing and providing feedback to schools on their improvement plans;
- Providing trainings to school improvement teams on needs assessment and school improvement planning, and on self-evaluation of improvement efforts and implementation;
- Providing coaching and critical assistance to the district as it implemented its new system of support.
