This article recognizes the challenges that may exist between Asian/Pacific newcomer students and teachers who may be unfamiliar with Asian/Pacific cultures. Strategies are suggested to improve communication in the classroom and to encourage communication with newcomer families.

Teachers looking for more in-depth discussion regarding the topics presented (i.e., cultural differences, theories and methods of second language acquisition) will find it limited in that area. However, a good overview of some of the issues related to educating ELLs.
